Wayne McKinney III
In 2013 a young Wayne McKinney would walk into his first ever basketball tryout at the Beaverton Hoop YMCA. Having never played on a real basketball team before he lacked the basic skills and fundamentals. I remember him traveling, fouling kids, and shooting the ball with two hands over his head like he was making an over head pass. Despite his lack of basketball experience what Wayne did have was athleticism and passion. He worked as hard as he could at that tryout and that landed him a spot on our 5th grade team, where he would play season after season along side a very talented group of kids.
During the Covid years Wayne would transfer from Lake Oswego High School in Oregon to Coronado High School in California to finish out his high school career. After high school Wayne would go on to be the starting point guard for the University of San Diego.
